Each family tree is unique. As a valued client, you’re welcome to request a customised project. Otherwise, my standard research options are seven generations, or further ancestry (more details below).
My services are normally provided remotely, however I also offer face-to-face consultations in Nambucca Heads, NSW.
The research fees below take into account the time needed to research a family tree thoroughly, take note of the sources, and prepare the information into a reader-friendly report. They also cover the costs of ordering birth, marriage or death certificates (or transcripts, etc) where required to prove ancestry.
Sources used in research may include BDM (or BMD) certificates, parish registers, wills, census records, military service files, immigration records, insolvency cases, court records, prison records, electoral rolls, cemetery indices, historical newspapers and obituaries, and the Heralds’ Visitations, to name some examples.
Once the research is complete you will be provided with a report to display the findings.

My research reports are generally sent via email as a digital document (eg, pdf format), which you can then print at home. Or if you would prefer a printed book to be posted to you, feel free to let me know so we can arrange this with a book designer/printer (who will charge their own fees).

Services are flexible to meet your needs, as no two family trees are the same. My work focuses on researching direct ancestry, tracing your family’s origins through history. Many records are consulted, but each record is carefully checked to ensure that it belongs in your family tree. See FAQ for more information on the types of records used and why I hold to a high standard of accuracy.
Seven Generations
Research fee: $485.00
Tracing direct ancestry back to a limit of 7 generations. A report displaying the findings is provided. You can select this option for yourself or another person, such as your parent or grandparent. If less than 5 generations are found, we can negotiate a change in fee.
Further Ancestry
Research Fee: $750.00
Tracing direct ancestry as far as accurately possible, with a limit of tracing it back to the year 1500. A report displaying the findings is provided. If less than 8 generations are found, then we can negotiate a change in fee. Please note that although noble and royal lineages are often well-documented, most non-noble families can only be traced to the 1600s with confidence (although there are exceptions; see the article below for more information).
Other Services
Research on one individual
Research fees negotiable
This project includes reasonably exhaustive research on one individual within specified expenses, with a written biography/narrative to accompany the research. The focus person must not be currently living, or have been born less than 100 years ago. Details on other family members in the same research report do not count as separate projects, and therefore do not incur additional fees (unless an additional project is requested of course). Details on family members are limited to those confirmed to be deceased and also born upwards of 100 years ago, due to privacy reasons. Please contact me to negotiate project particulars and for a free quote.
Newspaper look-ups
$10 per article
An extensive collection of historical newspapers have been scanned and digitised. This project involves searching digitised articles for any information on your ancestors, and providing you with transcriptions of the relevant content with links to the original scanned images. Bear in mind that to view these original scanned images, you may require a paid subscription to their sites. The fee above applies only to articles that you accept as part of the project (eg, you may prefer to disqualify duplicate content published in different newspapers). No base fee is charged, however a deposit will be required for projects reasonably expected to involve 20 articles or more.
Transcription
$10 per 100 words
This service is available for both written and audio files (eg, handwritten letters or recorded interviews), or parts thereof. The final product is a typed transcription of the original content.
Family history narratives/biographies
Project fees negotiable
This project focuses on writing a narrative or biography from information provided by the client/s. Every writer has a unique style; for examples of my personal style I would strongly suggest reading my brief biographies on James Champ (also his relatives), Elizabeth Howarth and Henry Thomas Pike. The client is responsible for any client-provided content. If research is requested, this may incur additional charges. Bear in mind that this service does not produce printed or digital books, only a pdf file with the typed narrative or biography (which can be printed in A4). Please specify whether you would like images included in the document. Or if you would prefer to contribute your own images, please provide me with scanned copies via email (your local library may offer a scanning service). Up to three revisions of the project may be requested.
